Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Painter. The Painter performs finish coat applications using multi-stage aerospace materials via spray or brush in accordance with Mil-Spec requirements where high-grade finishes are essential. The Painter applies polyurethane and epoxy paints as well as aviation specified materials to surfaces of machined or manufactured products used in the aerospace industries. The position requires meeting unusual specifications for finishing requirements that necessitate the mixing of paints to achieve the specified criteria.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct painting assignment(s) under the direction of a Paint Lead and Management.
- Works independently using drawings and process specifications on applications to ensure the finish meets the customer’s specifications.
- Determines the type of finish, quantity and color to be utilized in conformance with military specifications.
- Selects proper method, equipment and tools to complete task.
- Ensures proper surface preparation and masking, mixing epoxies and solvents to appropriate ratios by weight, volume or viscosity, incorporating knowledge of scales and weights and how substances interact.
- Mixes and applies a wide variety of paint finishes such as polyurethane, epoxy, and plastic-based products to specific colors, consistencies and viscosities requiring a thorough knowledge and understanding of their qualities in order to experiment with and achieve desired effect.
- Tests drying, curing and baking times for specified finishes. Adjusts temperatures according to atmospheric conditions, finish requirements and experimental bake times.
- Regulates spray gun and ventilates spray booth according to temperature and humidity requirements.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive, detailed work.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Assist in identifying manufacturing issues by working with management to determine root cause and help implement corrective and preventative action.
- Assisting team members in problem solving, trouble shooting and the handling of unique situations.
- Help ensure the company is meeting their production goals and deadlines.
- Supports special engineering tests or procedures.
- Perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on paint equipment as required.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, and the company. Includes ability to handle stress and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts.
- Responsible for compliance with applicable corporate and company policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Painter.
- Experience performing finish coat painting in accordance with Mil-Spec specifications where high-grade finishes are essential.
- Experience reading and interpreting drawings and specifications.
- Experience in the Aerospace, Auto or Marine Manufacturing industry preferred; preferences given to those with experience in the preparation and painting of composite or manufactured piece parts used in aerospace applications.
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of paint booth systems.
- Experience using measuring cups, scales and industry standard painting equipment.
- Good to excellent vision for detecting visual defects or damage to parts.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with coworkers, supervisor(s) and management.
- Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems.
- Highly motivated and driven.
- Excellent organization skills, high attention to detail, adaptable to various responsibilities, and ability to multi-task.
- A good team-player and able to work independently.
- Excellent time management skills.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
